The icon is the one allegedly found in the desecrated shell of a 13th century convent of the Poor Clares formerly on the site, but it has obviously been much repainted. However, it is identifiable as being of the Sienese school. Apparently the stars on Our Lady's mantle are 19th century also ex-votos.
